CRAFTSMANSHIP
Japanese craftsmanship is rooted in a deep respect for precision, patience, and tradition. Every detail is thoughtfully considered, with artisans dedicating years, often a lifetime, to perfecting their skills.
Guided by the philosophy of monozukuri, the art of making things with purpose and pride, Japanese craftsmanship blends time-honored techniques with refined simplicity.

UZUKI TEAM
KANAKO CO-FOUNDER
Kanako comes from a lineage deeply rooted in Japanese history. On her mother’s side, her family descends from a samurai clan bearing the Sakurai name, a heritage that carries with it a strong sense of discipline, integrity, and respect for craftsmanship. Growing up with this legacy quietly shaped her values and her appreciation for traditions that are built to endure.
She graduated from one of Japan’s leading private universities before beginning her career at a prestigious IT company. She later went on to work for global companies such as Mediumistic Group and Daimler, managing markets across several countries. Through these experiences, she developed a deep appreciation for quality, reliability, and the precision required to build products for some of the world’s most recognisable brands.
Her years abroad, particularly her time living as an expatriate in Dubai, broadened her perspective and deepened her understanding of cultural diversity. Surrounded by people from all over the world, she gained a renewed appreciation for her own heritage. It was also in Dubai that she met her husband. After spending six years together in Tokyo, travelling across Japan in search of its finest delicacies, they made the bold decision to relocate to Slovenia.
Living away from Japan made her realize that while the world admires Japanese culture, its true essence, the quiet elegance and uncompromising quality, is often lost. Finding authentic, meticulously crafted Japanese products abroad proved to be a constant challenge. Motivated by a desire to share the Japan she knows and loves, not the simplified version often seen overseas but the authentic, deeply crafted one, Uzuki was born.
TINE CO-FOUNDER
Born on the coast of Slovenia, Tine grew up in a family of business professionals, where from an early age he was taught the values of hard work, discipline, and integrity. His formative years took him around the world. He worked in both the United States and Australia, completed his bachelor's studies in Sweden and his home country Slovenia, and later earned his MBA degrees in Switzerland. These years abroad broadened his horizons and taught him the value of understanding and learning from different cultures.
His career path led him into the luxury hospitality industry, where he had the privilege of working with and leading teams for some of the world's most respected hotel brands, including The Ritz-Carlton and The Peninsula Hotels. These experiences refined his understanding of true quality, not the superficial kind, but quality built on precision, consistency, and pride in craftsmanship.
During his time in Dubai, he met his wife, Kanako. Together they spent six years in Japan, where he developed a deep appreciation for Japanese culture and a profound respect for the people's commitment to excellence and attention to detail. Experiencing Japanese craftsmanship and culture firsthand reshaped his understanding of mastery. He wanted to create a place where people can truly experience the Japanese uniqueness and traditions, not what is vastly represented around the world. With this shared philosophy in mind, they founded Uzuki.
